One Penny for Space
Out of every pound of government spending, we ought to spend 1p on space capabilities.

There are enormous resources outside of Earth's orbit. China and America are developing the ability to reach, capture, and return them to grow their countries.
Mass-to-orbit is comparable to Moore's Law — the space economy will look as different in 30 years as the information economy has in the past 30, and we simply cannot afford to sit it out.
We have no defences
The British military mostly relies on foreign satellites to function, including for navigation, precision strike, and reconnaissance. Russia and China have demonstrated the ability to shoot down such satellites, potentially leaving British troops exposed on battlefields.
We have no way of defending against these attacks, no way of striking back in space, and no way of replacing the satellites if struck. We urgently need to build up our military space capabilities, without which we have no credible national defence.
A platform for science
British science is falling behind without space infrastructure. America and China conduct revolutionary orbital research while our scientists depend on foreign access.
We have no independent research capabilities and no path to scientific leadership. Space will transform science as computing transformed society - we cannot afford to be left behind.
